A journey across five centuries of sacred music, this concert explores the depth and breadth of the choral motet, from the luminous polyphony of the Renaissance (Palestrina, Byrd) and the serene mastery of J.S. Bach’s Komm, Jesu, komm, to its transformation in the hands of modern composers William Harris, James MacMillan, and Arvo Pärt.
Through these works, The Elora Singers trace an evolving musical form that has inspired composers and listeners alike for generations. In the resonant acoustics of St. John’s Anglican Church, this program offers a rare and captivating exploration of the motet’s timeless beauty and profound emotional range.
