Calling all choral musicians in London, Ontario!

On Saturday Nov. 4, Mark Vuorinen (Artistic Director) and members of The Elora Singers will be offering a unique opportunity for
singers and conductors to learn how to improve their choral skills by working directly with Mark and the Singers themselves.

This full day workshop will feature rehearsals and sectionals, breakout instruction sessions, a conducting masterclass, and will conclude with a public performance.

Prerequisites:

A love for choral singing, basic music literacy, and a desire to learn!


Session topics include:

Vocal Technique:

Healthy singing, warming up the voice and stamina. We will also touch on the aging voice and how to use vibrato as a tool.

Choral Singing 101:

Skills building – What does it mean to stagger breathe, how to end a phrase, good diction, blend and how to mark your score.

Sightreading 101:

Tips and tricks to becoming a better sight-singer by understanding intervals, contour and rhythm.

Conducting Session for Singers:

Learn basic conducting techniques and skills to help you better understand your conductor and make you a better chorister.

SPECIAL SESSION: Conducting Masterclass

All participants are invited to observe a choral conducting masterclass, led by Mark Vuorinen. This session will explore phrasing, how to breathe with your singers, rehearsal techniques, and more.

Four conductors will have the opportunity to work with an octet from The Elora Singers during the masterclass.

Showcase Concert:

The workshop will conclude with a performance, so participants can use the skills they honed throughout the day, and share in the joy of singing together.

The concert will also feature The Elora Singers, and will be open to the public.

Once registered, participants will receive a PDF of the repertoire, and hard copies will be provided upon arrival.

Fees:

All Participants - $30.00*

Conducting Masterclass Participants: There is an additional $20.00 fee for the four conductors chosen for the masterclass. Those selected will receive payment instructions along with other details.
